MARRIAGE
Marriage is a pact of love, a marriage alliance between a man and a woman whothey give one to the other for the good of the spouses and the generation and education of offspring. The pactmarriage, a community of life and love, was founded and endowed with its own laws by the Creator.Among the baptized, it was elevated, by Christ the Lord, to the dignity of a sacrament (cf. GS, 48 and can.1055, 1 and 2).
The essential properties of marriage are: the unity and indissolubility of the sacrament itself(cf. can. 1056).The sacrament of marriage signifies the union of Christ with the Church. Grants spouses thegrace to love each other with the same love with which Christ loved his Church; the grace ofsacrament brings to perfection the human love of the spouses, consolidates their indissoluble unity andsanctifies them on the path to eternal life (cf. GS, 48 and can. 1055, 1). Marriage is based on the consent of the contracting parties, that is, on the willingness to give oneself to each other anddefinitively to live a covenant of faithful and fruitful love (cf. GS, 48 and can. 1057).
